306 to go...

> ¡hola familia!
> it was awesome talking to you yesterday! it charged my batteries to
> finish the year really well. just one more week until 2012! i´m not
> going to skype today because i don´t have any money to finish the
> month and i have to wait a long time for the computers with cameras...
> but that´s ok. for mother´s day i think that i will definitely use it
> though because elder roper and elder castillo were using it on their
> ipods in the church while i was talking on the phone and i was a
> little jealous even though my comp wasn´t able to call his family
> yesterday because the phone went crazy and wouldn´t make any phone
> calls after i hung up. we spent the morning playing futbol in trelew
> and elder escobar was able to call while we played, and then we went
> to eat some hot dogs before we got to the ciber to write. it´s a good
> pday so far and my companion really enjoyed talking to his family too.
> i was going to send some pictures and videos of our christmas fiesta
> but i forgot my camera this morning. next week i guess. do you guys
> have some big plans for new years? i think that we are going to end up
> doing the same thing this weekend so it should go well.
> the pictures you sent me of the whole familia together was awesome! i
> can´t wait to get my own summers´ shirt!
> i don´t have much to say this week because i feel like i said it all
> yesterday... but it was great talking with all of you. i love you all
> and i hope the travel back home goes safely. next monday will be a

313 to go...

ola familia!
> can you believe it? the year is coming to an end... and christmas is 6
> DAYS away! i磎 so excited to talk to you guys! pte peterson set a rule
> that we can磘 skype on sunday, but maybe on monday... i think that i
> will just call on sunday and i need to coordinate with the other
> missionaries because there are four of us and only one phone in the
> church. i don磘 know if we can go anywhere else but we will see. i磎
> thinking that i will be calling some time around 4-7 (in my time
> zone). i磎 going to buy a calling card right now and you guys can
> call me at the number i call from? it should go well. we are going to
> be eating very well that weekend because we were invited to eat some
> 创asadasos创 with some families. that is like a huge meat barbeque
> and i磎 pretty pumped.
> leandro is doing awesome. he磗 good friends with some of the youth in
> the ward and his mom is pretty excited because he is spending time
> with other members. he blessed the sacrament again on sunday and he磗
> pretty involved. we just talked to his mom today in the street and
> she said that her family just attacked her (verbally) last night for
> being a member of the church and said a bunch of ugly things about the
> church but they don磘 understand anything about it... but his mom is
> really strong in the church too but it made her feel pretty bad. we
> are going to visit them tomorrow.
> we talked with silvia about her marriage status and she is going to
> start the divorce process so she can marry the guy she is living with.
> we are trying to get some of the hermanas in our ward to start
> visiting her when we aren磘 there so we are inviting them to come with
> us to the lessons. silvia really enjoys coming to church and she is
> feeling good about things. the members are calling her a 创mormon
> seco创 because she is only lacking her baptism to be a member.
> pte peterson did come this week to interview all of us and it was
> really awesome. i was able to talk to him about all of my concerns
> with the area and our investigators and he gave me some good
> direction. we talked a lot about prayer and i ended up studying more
> about it this week and i learned a lot of interesting things that
> changed the way that i think about it.
> one thing that i read in the bible dictionary is that we end our
> prayers 创in the name of Jesus Christ创 because we are praying for the
> things that He would pray for, and we should pray for things that
> agree with the will of God. i never thought about prayer in that way,
> that i磎 praying for things that Jesus would be praying for. i know
> that our prayers are answered when we ask for things that God wants
> for us.
> a few days ago, we went to clap some doors in the morning, but it was
> really hot and everybody either went to the beach or was eating lunch
> so we couldn磘 get into any doors. we didn磘 have lunch until 2 so we
> didn磘 have much to do at that time and it was kind of tough. i was
> getting really thirsty and for some reason, i started thinking that a
> nice glass of orange juice would be perfect at the moment. one guy
> answered the door, 创freddy创, and said he didn磘 have time to talk to
> us but he gave us 2 oranges. i was asking my companion how could it
> be possible that we got some oranges when i was thinking of orange
> juice, but we can磘 be directed to some good people to teach. we went
> to a corner under the shade to start eating our oranges. we ate half
> of our oranges when a gypsy couple with their young son showed up and
> started asking us questions about the church. they were out selling
> table cloths and other stuff and they weren磘 having any success
> either so we just started talking and we ended up teaching them right
> there on the corner. i thought that was really cool how all of that
> was planned out to meet those guys right there at that moment. the
> bad thing is that they aren磘 from rawson and they are moving to a
> different city on tuesday but we at least had the opportunity to talk
> to them and plant that seed for later. we were praying for people to
> teach and they presented themselves in a different way that we were
> expecting but we were able to teach. i think that i need to be a
> little more specific with my prayers but they need to be what God
> wants for us too.
> Alma 35:5 Yea, O God, and thou wast merciful unto me when I did cry
> unto thee in my field; when I did cry unto thee in my prayer, and thou
> didst hear me.
> i felt like i was answered in that moment and i am very grateful for
> this experience.
> it磗 getting a lot warmer now and when it is a really hot day, the
> town shuts off the electricity and water. our freezer is full of ice,
> so full that we couldn磘 put our hands in to take stuff out, and when
> the electricity was turned off all of that ice melted and flooded the
> apartment. that was a fun surprise when we got up in the morning but
> now everything is good and our freezer is clear of ice. it was a
> blessing in disguise.
> on friday, the ward had an activity to celebrate the end of the year
> and it was on my comps birthday so he was able to have a semi-party to
> celebrate too. it went very well and there was a talent show and a
> dance afterward. we didn磘 stay for the dance, but we ate some good
> food and some of our investigators showed up too. nacho came with his
> friend and the familia dorrey came. it was a success. on sunday, the
> four of us missionaries sang a part of 创we磍l bring the world his
> truth创, for the primary presentation. it went very well. things are
> going a lot better here in rawson and we are starting to progress a
> lot more.
> i know that this is God磗 work and i know that i am supposed to be
> here in rawson with elder escobar. i am grateful for the opportunity
> that was given to me to be here and help with all that i can. it磗 a
> great feeling to know that my Heavenly Father can trust me to follow
> through with His plans and help those in need, and i磎 having an
> awesome time serving right now. even though christmas is coming up in
> less than a week, i磎 glad that i磎 here. i love you guys a lot and i
> really am looking forward to hearing your voices on sunday! i attached
> a short clip of my christmas song because i know my momma likes it ;D
> FELICES FIESTAS! MERRY CHRISTMAS! I LOVE YOU! HASTA DOMINGO! CHAU!

320 to go...

¡hola familia!
> i received my christmas package last week! it made me so happy! i
> didn´t open the wrapped things because momma told me not to, but i´m
> excited! all the candy is amazing too! i haven´t opened anything yet,
> but i have eaten some candy canes, the peach rings, and some of those
> root beer candies. thank you for sending it! the calendar was just
> what i wanted too, and the jar of peanut butter! i don´t know why i
> like peanut butter so much right now...
> getting the conference in english was also really cool too! i have
> read the majority of the discursos and i really liked them. i really
> enjoyed the discurso by pte eyring in the priesthood session ´´i need
> your help´´, because my service as a missionary right now is helping
> me to become a better priesthood holder and future leader. i just
> need to stay diligent like pte eyring was and be ready to do more even
> when i´m tired.
> it´s interesting that trelew was on your world map because it´s not
> that big of a city. neuquen is a lot bigger, and trelew is about 15
> kilometers away from the ocean. rawson has a fishing port and it is
> the capital of chubut but it is really small.
> this week, leandro received the priesthood and was ordained a priest.
> on sunday, he showed up to church in a suit and he was able to bless
> the sacrament on sunday too. it was really cool to see him because he
> is progressing a lot. i don´t think his brother, rodrigo, has too
> much interest in the church right now. i think he is feeling a lot of
> pressure to be baptized and we don´t want him to feel like he´s
> obligated to do anything. we are trying to teach him though but we
> will see how that goes.
> silvia loves attending church. a lot of garbage has been happening to
> her lately and she can feel a difference in her house everytime we
> come to visit and there is peace in the house after we leave. some
> kids stole her chickens, one of her little dogs, and started a fire
> behind her house that damaged a bunch of trees. she has been pretty
> stressed because she loved that little dog... but she is now more
> willing to listen to us because she has seen a difference in her life
> when she is reading the book of mormon and praying. she admitted to
> us that she didn´t want a blessing of comfort last week because she
> was technically a member to another church for the last year, but she
> called that church and told them she didn´t want to be a member
> anymore so she could become more involved in our church. apparently
> she was baptized 3 times already so she wants to be really sure about
> the church before she is baptized the fourth time. i don´t blame her.
> but she tells us a lot that she is still ´´searching for her place´´
> and now she thinks that she has found it. the members are really good
> to her when she comes to church so she is feeling a lot better.
> it has been kind of hard to find nacho again this week and he didn´t
> come to church yesterday. we don´t know what is going on with him
> right now but we set a cita to visit him this week. we did find an
> awesome family to start teaching and we have a cita with them tonight.
> we are excited to teach them tonight and we are hoping everything
> goes well.
> i´m still not sure if i will be able to use skype but i spoke with the
> owner of the ciber and they are still deciding if it is going to be
> open. maybe i can skype on the 24th... or i can just call on the
> 25th. i will know for sure next monday, i think...
> but everything is going well here. elder escobar is pretty cool and we
> get along fine. he is a ´´lowtalker´´ so he sometimes gets impatient
> with me if i don´t understand but i understand ok when he talks
> louder. his birthday is on friday so i have to come up with something
> for us to celebrate!
> it´s getting a little hotter here so it´s getting harder to find
> people to teach. everyone wants to go to the beach during the day and
> at night, they are too tired to want to talk to us. it´s a little
> difficult right now but we are being diligent. we painted a ceiling
> this week and cleared a patio of weeds, lots of service. now we are
> going to see if that service will turn to new investigators. i read
> about ammon and his brothers this morning and i really liked how they
> just dedicated themselves to serving. we are offering a lot more help
> and some are takers while the majority still just say no.
> in preach my gospel, there is a challenge to break a habit to see how
> hard it is for investigators to break addictions. i decided this week
> that i am going to break my habit of cracking my knuckles and now i
> have gone 5 days without doing it. i failed a lot. i didn´t realize
> how often i was doing it... my fingers were getting really stiff
> without cracking them but now they are feeling normal again. it made
> me reflect on how much more difficult it would be to stop smoking or
> drinking but they will feel a lot more free. what i noticed with this
> challenge was that it was really hard for me to stop in the beginning
> but now i don´t feel the need to do it anymore. it gave me another
> perspective for people dealing with addictions that are a lot bigger.
> tomorrow, pte peterson is coming to rawson because he is interviewing
> all of the missionaries in the whole mission. we are looking forward
> to seeing him again tomorrow. now we are getting ready to go to
> trelew for the afternoon and playing basketball with the other
> missionaries there. thanks for writing this week! i always love
> hearing from you and seeing all the pictures (and videos) that you
> send!
> i love you guys!

327 to go...

¡hola familia!
> we made it to december! things are going awesome here in rawson, and
> the weather is starting to get a lot warmer. the stores are starting
> to sell more decorations for christmas and i´m excited to celebrate in
> rawson this year.
> my new comp is elder escobar and he is a lot more tranquilo than my
> last comp. i can´t think of a better word... he´s pretty quiet but he
> still works and we get along fine. he is from guatemala and he turns
> 24 on the 16th. he was one of those guys that listened to heavy metal
> in english and played a lot of violent video games so he has one of
> those personalities... but we are doing great. the transition was a
> pretty big one because my last comp was a lot louder and now my new
> comp almost whispers the things he says.
> this week went great and the people are really progressing. after
> leandro´s baptism last week, he started spending a lot more time with
> the youth in the ward and his little brother rodrigo is getting a lot
> more involved too. right now the youth are playing in a stake futbol
> tournament, and leandro and rodrigo both came to play. we went to
> watch and our ward won 7-3. i thought that church basketball was
> intense... but it has nothing on futbol in argentina. leandro is
> getting ready for the aaronic priesthood and the bishop announced it
> in sacrament meeting yesterday. we have been visiting him and his
> brother to help him prepare and the goal is to have leandro baptize
> his brother. that would be awesome. his older sister has been
> studying in buenos aires and she is coming home for the navidad.
> elder colombres taught her a little bit before she left and now the
> family is saying she has more interest, so maybe it WILL be a white
> christmas after all!
> silvia is doing great too, the only thing she lacks is getting married
> to the guy she is living with but he needs to get divorced first. she
> probably won´t be able to be baptized for a few months unless they get
> going with the process but the guy doesn´t seem to hurry. él es
> satanás.
> yesterday, we went to eat lunch with natalia britez and her family and
> it was the first time they have given the missionaries lunch in over a
> year. they have been less active for a while but elder colombres and
> i got them to come back to church and to stop listening to the
> jehovah´s witnesses (because they have been confusing them a ton). it
> is so great to see them progressing, and her son lucas is passing the
> sacrament every week. natalia gave us an awesome reference for a guy
> named nacho. he is 22 and is the younger brother of her ex-boyfriend.
> last year he used to drink a ton and do a lot of drugs, but he found
> a church in trelew that helped him get over all of that and he
> completely changed. now he is very frustrated with that church
> because he found a lot of things in the bible that are against it and
> he says that he doesn´t feel satisfied after attending. we ended up
> going to his house last night to get to know him and we found natalia
> there visiting him. we were able to teach him about the restoration
> and about the church. he told us that all we wants in life is to find
> the right way and natalia helped us a lot with the lesson. it was
> awesome! we have another cita with him tonight and we are really
> excited to teach him about repentance and baptism. he already has a
> fecha to be baptized on the 17th this month.
> this week, i really liked these scriptures:
> mosiah 27:36-37
> 36 And thus they were instruments in the hands of God in bringing
> many to the knowledge of the truth, yea, to the knowledge of their
> Redeemer.
> 37 And how blessed are they! For they did publish peace; they did
> publish good tidings of good; and they did declare unto the people
> that the Lord reigneth.
> mateo 19:29
> 29 And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters,
> or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s
> sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting
> life.
> i thought that they were really awesome scriptures and i know that
> there are a lot of blessings that come from our service as
> missionaries. i love seeing the fruits of our labors and i am praying
> every day to find the people that are ready! last night was a miracle
> finding nacho and i am very grateful for the help and support of the
> members. i think that we are finally gaining the trust of the members
> here in rawson and we are going to see a lot of great things in the
> next few months. i´m excited and ready to get going another week!
> today we started the week great and i was able to go and buy a new
> watch band (finally)! it broke a few weeks ago and i didn´t know where
> i could get a new one so my watch stayed in my pocket... we got our
> haircuts this morning too and the hermano morales did an awesome job.
> now we look more ´´missionary-like´´. today we are planning on going
> to the zoo here in rawson so i might take some pictures for next week!
> hey- thank you for getting that certificate sent. i think i am going
> to be able to get going on that this week but i haven´t heard anything
> so far. we haven´t checked to see if the bolsa arrived in the
> terminal yet so i don´t know if i got my package yet, but for sure
> next week i guess! ¡¡muchas gracias!! just 3 more weeks until
> christmas and i am so excited to talk to all of you! i´m thinking
> that i will be able to skype so that will be awesome! i love you all,
> and i´m looking forward to hearing from you again next week!
